Easy Money Saving Gifts Your Kids Will Love To Make

With Christmas time upon us we will be hustling to get all of our Christmas Gifts shopping done and of course, the kids will want to get presents for Mom and Dad. Many of us will take them out and let them pick out something cheap or not so cheap for each parent for Christmas.I have done this myself but I found the best gifts were those that they made themselves. My kids are now in their twenties and those are the Christmas gifts I keep.

Let me start out by saying this isn’t going to be one of those impressive step by step DIY tutorials because I am not in the least bit crafty.

I am notoriously craft challenged! When my kids were much younger we did all of the gift ideas I am featuring. I think sometimes crafts can be too involved and cause them to lost interest. These DIY ideas are very simple and inexpensive as all of the supplies can be found at your nearest dollar store!

Scrap-Booking Kid Style

I liked to call this the Mom/Dad and me book! It is very simple and here’s what you will need:

  • Notebook with a plain cover
  • Art Supplies
  • Pencils and Pens

This is really a make-it-your-own-way project. Basically, it is about the child and chosen parent. You let them decorate the cover however they want. Glitter, stickers, markers whatever works for them. They name the book either Mom Or Dad and me!

Inside they will fill it with memories, stories, pictures, drawings. Anything that is about the two of them. I love the idea of writing down their favorite memories and drawing pictures.

Personalized Pencil Cup

Everyone needs a place to keep their pens and pencils! This is really easy as it’s just decorating and you can use stuff from around the house. Here’s what you will need:

  • A Coffee Can
  • Paint or Contact Paper
  • Decorations

You just grab that coffee can that’s empty and either paint it or us contact paper. Add decorations to your child’s liking and write Mom or Dad on it. Easy peasy.

Simple money-saving gifts

Personalized Candy Jar or Mug

Who doesn’t love candy? We all have our favorites and this gift does double duty as it can be used as a mug after. Here is what you will need:

  • A Plain colored Mug Or Mason Jar
  • Paint or Markers
  • Candy

You just get a plain colored mug or Mason Jar and I love paint pens! You can use markers too if you want something washable. Write Mom or Dad and fill it with their favorite candy.

Coupon Book

We have all made these! I know my granddaughter still will randomly make us coupons for this or that. It is a really fun gift, Here is what you will need:

  • Construction Paper
  • Pens and markers
  • Christmas Stickers

They simply decide what they want to give. Household chores, maybe an hour alone, hugs and kisses. Write them down on small coupon size cards and stick a Christmas sticker on it and put into a small gift box.

Inspiration Jar

We all need a little inspiration to get through the day. This gift will fill Mom or Dad with positive vibes to get through the day and give your child the benefit of knowing they made this happen. What you will need:

  • A Jar
  • Colored Post-it Notes
  • Pens and Decorations

I actually did this for my husband on Valentine’s Day and it just seemed like a thoughtful gift for kids. It is so simple, they just write down what they love about Mom or Dad and different ways they could have a great day. Fold up the notes and stuff them in a jar.

They can write on the jar one a day or anything they would like. Decorate the jar. It is a simple idea but can really make a difference.

There are loads of inexpensive gifts  that your kids can make that are fun and easy. What are some of your favorite homemade gift ideas for Christmas.
